Answers:
- Q: What exactly does Content Dynamics do?
A: Content Dynamics is an exceptional provider of enterprise content refinement and migration solutions. Our unique services embrace a distinct mix of state-of-the-art technologies, subject matter experts and a proven process. Together, these elements are able to efficiently and effectively handle almost any enterprise content refinement or migration projects.
- Q: Is Content Dynamics limited in the types of data that can be reviewed or the format of the new data?
A: Currently, our only limitation is that we prefer the language of the content to be in English. Otherwise, we do not anticipate any restrictions on the format of current content or for requirements of migrated content.
- Q: Does Content Dynamics work on production "live" content or is a copy of the files needed?
A: Content Dynamics works on content that is taken offline. Typically, we perform the content inventory, review and migration functions on a secure server located on our company's premises. However, if security becomes an issue, we can discuss alternative arrangements.
- Q: If Content Dynamics works on offline content, does this mean we need to put a freeze on any content changes within the production environment during the course of the project?
A: The Content Dynamics workflow process is designed to support a parallel process in which newly added, changed or deleted content could be dealt with as a final step in the content migration process. The actual duration of a content "freeze" would likely be very short (i.e., about a week).
- Q: What if I only need an inventory of my content with no review or migration?
A: Content Dynamics recognizes that every project is different and would be happy to tailor our support to your project's unique requirements.
- Q: I've already completed an inventory of my content. Can Content Dynamics use this information or do you need to start at the beginning?
A: If you have captured all of the information needed for your project, Content Dynamics would expect to be able to use your inventory and may not need to repeat this effort, except as a possible validation of the information.
- Q: What does Content Dynamics need from me to start the project?
A: In addition to access to all source files, we typically need information about the taxonomy, keywords, content owners and other metadata requirements of your new content management system, document management system, Web site, portal, etc. We also need information about the requirements for the new system's data formatting requirements (e.g., XML structure, templates, etc.).
- Q: How does your service differ from automated solutions that exist?
A: Automated solutions often fall far short of expectations. Companies with extensive content already existing without a Content Management System face a large amount of heterogeneous distributed content that may not fit any pattern. Without such patterns, it is extremely difficult to produce a viable migration.
Tools can assist in the process but they can't replace the human touch on issues such as what constitutes high-value content, how content should be decomposed, what users will really extract from a page, etc.
- Q: When should I begin planning my content migration strategy from my legacy system?
A: As early as is practical. And discount any claims that migration will be easy until those claims are validated by actual analysis of the effort that will be required.
- Q: What if I already have consultants working on my project?
A: Our services focus on the inventory, refinement and reformatting of content - services that large and specialized consulting firms don't offer. Most projects on which we work have involved or been led by outside consultants. In several cases, we've actually sub-contracted our services through these organizations.
